Ever looking to the future, a number of projects have been designed to take advantage of Elko’s crossroads location and abundant natural resources. Elko County has diversified its opportunities and leveraged its resources with the 60-acre Northeastern Nevada Regional Rail Port located just 4.5 miles east of the city limits. This county- owned facility is the largest in the state and has direct access to I-80. The adjacent industrial park has abundant resources and utilities, including water, and is suitable for most light-industrial or manufacturing applications.
There are established geothermal sources within Elko County and many additional resources with high potential for development, involving both surface and ground water. The Elko Heat Company, one of Nevada’s largest geothermal district heating systems, has provided services to Elko since 1982, and reports it is only
at 50 percent capacity and could easily expand its geo- thermal service to additional customers in the downtown and light-industrial areas west of Elko. In addition, geothermal waters in the Wells area are reported at 200 to 230 degrees Fahr- enheit and the Carlin area reports a reservoir size of 0.79 cubic miles with tem- peratures near boiling.

The Ruby Pipeline has been a win-win project for natural gas consumers and producers. It represents significant investment in new pipeline infrastructure that will connect clean-burning and competitively priced natural gas reserves in the Rocky Mountain region with growing markets in the western United States. The project has one of its stations located north of Elko.
All in all, Elko County has much to offer, both to providers and to those seeking employment, as the outlook moving forward is most positive. We hope you will decide to become a part of our Elko community so you too can experience the anticipated bright future of our area!
